Children will create their own colourful, marshmallow-inspired macramé keychain while learning how to tie a simple spiral knot. They will choose their own cord colours, learn the knot step by step, and use it to build their keychain from start to finish. The activity is designed to be simple, playful and hands-on, giving each child the freedom to personalise their piece and leave the workshop with something beautiful and useful that they made themselves.
The activity connects children with creativity by encouraging them to see simple materials as something they can transform with their own hands. Through choosing colours, learning a knot and creating their own design, they experience how imagination can turn something simple into something useful and personal.
It also introduces the idea of mindful making by encouraging children to recognise that something they want or enjoy does not always have to be bought. With simple materials, creativity and their own hands, they can make something themselves.
The workshop also creates a sense of community through making together. Children can learn from and help one another as they practise the knot, while parents and caregivers can join in, offer encouragement and share in the creative process. This turns the activity into more than an individual craft project: it becomes an opportunity to connect, collaborate and enjoy the experience of creating something together.
